On Saturday morning, we started the day off well with a quick breakfast with one of our favorite professors and a close friend before picking up the kitties from their stay at the River City Cat Clinic (we boarded them for the day so that they didn't run away while we were packing the truck). We also stopped by our favorite Sacramento coffee shop to say goodbye. We were still tired from the previous night's ordeal, but at that point, things seemed to be going relatively okay.
Once we got the cats loaded into the mini, we thought we were going to be able to jet out of town and get on the road. Unbeknownst to us, for the first time in all of the years we had lived in Sacramento, a HUGE concert was happening in McClatchy Park (across the street from campus) and all of the city streets in the area would be completely overrun with cars. People were parked illegally just about everywhere and there were tons of pedestrians milling around. The night before, Katie had carefully parked the truck in a place where no one could legally park in front of her. Yet, now the U-Haul was essentially wedged between two cars with just barely enough room for us to maneuver the truck out. If it wasn't for our friend Whitney happening to drive by and literally stopping traffic with her SUV, we might still be sitting at that intersection waiting for traffic to clear!
Luckily without much further ado, we managed to get ourselves onto the 5 freeway, which we would be driving on until we reached Burbank at 11:00 pm!
Stay tuned, more to come!
